Both Ms Catherine Rennie and Mr Mark Ferguson from Skull Base Specialists travelled to Cape Town for a week of advanced surgical education and international collaboration. Hosted by Professor Darlene Lubbe, the TONES (Transnasal Orbital and NeuroEndoscopic Surgery) course is one of Africa’s leading programmes in endoscopic skull base and orbital surgery.
Held at Tygerberg Hospital, it attracts surgeons from around the world who are committed to advancing minimally invasive skull base techniques. Catherine and Mark attended on behalf of Skull Base Specialists, engaging in highlevel discussions on surgical strategy, anatomical challenges, and the integration of skull base principles into broader ENT practice.
The team also participated in the South African Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Meeting, held in Cape Town from 20–22 October. This national meeting brings together ENT surgeons from across South Africa for updates in clinical practice, research presentations, and subspecialty sessions. During the conference, Mr Mark Ferguson was invited to present on minimally invasive approaches to Eustachian tube dysfunction to the community of surgeons.
The Cape Town visit reflects Skull Base Specialists’ ongoing commitment to international education, knowledge exchange and supporting the development of advanced skull base services worldwide.
